*Most plans include Part D*

  • Dental

Medicare Part A

This covers costs associated with in-patient services at facilities including:

  • Hospitals
  • Skilled Nursing Facilities
  • Hospice
  • Some Home Health Care

*Many people pay into Medicare while they are employed; consequently, most Medicare Part A enrollees are not required to pay a premium.*

Please NoteThose who do not meet eligibility requirements for premium-free Part A may still enroll, contingent upon paying a premium, provided they are at least 65 years-old and enrolled in Part B, or they have been diagnosed with a disability. These enrollees are responsible for monthly premiums for both Part A and Part B coverage.

*Some states will assist residents who have limited income and resources with payments for one or both plans.*

Medicare Part B

The complementary other half to Part A, covering a variety of services including

  • Exams,
  • Outpatient Care,
  • Durable Medical Equipment
  • Home Health Services

Typically, the monthly premium for Part B coverage is a standard amount, but some recipients are required to pay a higher premium based on their income.

*It is important to sign up for Part B when you first become eligible, as enrolling late sometimes carries a late enrollment penalty.*

Those with an Advantage plan will typically pay a monthly premium in addition to the Part B premium.

There is usually a co payment or coinsurance for covered services as well. Out-of-pocket costs and rules about service providers can vary from plan to plan, and these rules can change each year.

Benefits to Medicare Advantage Plans

  • Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance) benefits and services.
  • Part D (medical prescription) coverage.
  • The same Medicare rights and protections offered by Original Medicare.
  • With the exception of End-Stage Renal Disease, those with a preexisting conditions can be eligible for Medicare Advantage coverage.

Medicare Supplements

Aka Medigap Plans

Fill in coverage gaps left by Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Parts A and B, while a part of the Medicare family, include very different benefits, and these benefits do not necessarily offer a level of coverage that meets every person’s medical needs. In these cases, it is important to consider adding a Supplemental plan.

Medicare Supplemental Insurance

This may be purchased by beneficiaries of Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage is another type of coverage available, but receiving Medigap and Medicare Advantage benefits simultaneously is not allowed. Supplemental plans complete the Medicare suite of products, but they are not necessarily a good fit for everyone.
